Job Summary
Process student tutorial requests to determine appropriate groupings and work independently with student groups under the direction of the classroom teacher. Facilitate high-level, Socratic style group tutorial sessions by guiding students through presenting, asking, and answering questions to achieve conceptual understanding of requested topics. Assess student work, provide positive reinforcement for academic growth, and collaborate regularly with teachers to determine process effectiveness. Perform recordkeeping tasks, participate in assigned district training, and complete other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the AVID tutorial program.
Required Qualifications
- Associates degree or 60 college credit hours
- current enrollment in or recent graduate of college or university
- the ability to pass the parapro test provided by the district free of charge
- Skilled in algebra, geometry, and potentially higher levels of mathematics
- Proficient in writing and other subject areas
- Knowledge, understanding, and ability to tutor reading, English and math (basic and advanced)
- Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with students, parents/guardians, teachers
- Ability to organize, prioritize, problem solve, and maintain organized records
- Ability to take initiative, adapt to changing situations, and work independently and with minimum supervision
- Ability to be prompt and dependable and meet the demands of a schedule
- Regular and on-time attendance
