Job Summary
Maintenance technician at the Tuscumbia Feed Mill is responsible for mechanical, electrical, welding, and shop-tool related duties with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and maintenance procedures. Tasks include wiring and connecting motors (single and three-phase), checking fuses and thermal heater units, using an amp probe, volt meter, and continuity tester, handling magnetic starters, safety switches, and hand-off automatic switches, and executing lock out procedures. Proficiency in plumbing, piping sizing and fittings, reading gauges and meters, installing pipes with minimal leaks, and understanding pumps (positive displacement and centrifugal) is required. Mechanical duties cover conveyors and power transmission chains, belts, pulleys, and tensioners; lubrication practices; and general maintenance. Welding and cutting capabilities include serviceable welds on steel and aluminum, appropriate electrode/flux selection, cutting torch use, soft soldering, and identifying material types. End-of-day tasks include communicating with incoming maintenance personnel, cleaning the shop, organizing paperwork, and returning rebuilt or spare parts to inventory. The role requires ability to lift at least 100 lbs, walk long distances, ascend/descend stairs, work in confined spaces, and operate in variable temperature environments.
