Job Summary
Conduct field observations, inspections, and audits to evaluate control effectiveness and identify hazards. Lead formal and team-based risk assessments to establish controls and maintain risk registers for significant workplace risks. Analyze safety performance data, incident trends, and leading indicators to prioritize preventative actions and emerging risks. Partner with operations and maintenance teams to develop effective controls and support incident investigations by identifying systemic causes. Provide technical guidance to supervisors and employees on hazard identification, risk methodologies, and the hierarchy of controls. Facilitate risk management reviews following incidents, process changes, or new equipment. Maintain accurate documentation, action tracking, and compliance records while ensuring adherence to federal, state, and MSHA standards. Support division management during regulatory inspections and assist in developing safe work procedures and job safety analyses.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in safety, Occupational Health, Risk Management, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field
- Associate degree in a related field
- 8–12 years of relevant industry experience
- demonstrated leadership and progressive responsibility in Safety & Health
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977 and applicable MSHA regulations
- Demonstrated experience in risk management, hazard identification, risk assessment, and control implementation
- Experience facilitating formal and team-based risk assessments in a mining or industrial environment
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Hierarchy of Controls, critical control management, and risk-based decision-making
- Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor leaders and employees in effective risk management practices
- Proficiency with safety, risk management, compliance, and data management systems
- MSHA Blue Card Instructor qualification
Desired Qualifications
- 6+ years of relevant industry experience
- Associate degree in a related field with 9+ years of relevant industry experience
- Experience facilitating formal and team-based risk assessments in a mining or industrial environment
- Experience with incident investigation, root cause analysis, and identifying failed or ineffective controls
- Experience developing and tracking corrective actions and verifying their effectiveness
- Ability to analyze safety data, trends, and leading indicators to identify emerging risks and prioritize preventative actions
- Strong ability to develop practical, creative, and sustainable solutions to complex safety and operational challenges
- Strong communication, facilitation, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence employees and leaders at all organizational levels
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines while maintaining a high level of organization and effectiveness
- MSHA Blue Card Instructor qualification
- Professional Safety & Health certifications such as CMSP, CSP, CIH, or preferred equivalent
