Job Summary
Ride in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route to pick up donated items, assisting the driver with navigation via maps or handwritten directions. Lift, carry, and haul donations into the truck, pack them to maximize space and protect items, then unload at the warehouse and distribute to appropriate locations. Inspect donated items for policy compliance, explain acceptance criteria to customers, prepare accurate donation receipts, and deliver purchased appliances and furniture. Maintain the vehicle by checking fluid levels and performing routine maintenance. Read, write, and communicate in English while meeting DOT requirements for vehicles. Perform strenuous physical work involving lifting heavy objects, continuous walking, and exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to meet attendance requirements
- Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language
- Ability to read and follow a map and/or hand-written directions
- Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects
- Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing
- Valid State Driver's License
- Six (6) months' experience lifting and hauling heavy items such as appliances and furniture
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
