Job Summary
Drive freight truck to transport materials to and from specified destinations, collecting payment for goods and delivery charges. Prepare receipts for loads, maintain driving logs, and complete accident reports accurately. Load and unload truck, inspect equipment including tires and brakes, and secure cargo using blocks, rope, and tarps. Provide service such as refueling and perform minor repairs while recognizing mechanical deficiencies. Maintain radio contact with supervisor for delivery instructions and follow all safety and legal requirements. May perform other utility work when truck duties are not available.
Required Qualifications
- High school education, or three years of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid California Class A license
- Valid DOT Medical card
- Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic signs and signals, respond to official inquiries and make entries on reports and records
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to write simple correspondences
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to problem solve and trouble shoot issues involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Follows work instructions, may use tools, equipment, and or apply technical skills to make decisions using sound judgment
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
