Job Summary
Drive freight truck to transport materials to and from specified destinations, collecting payment for goods and delivery charges. Prepare receipts for loads, maintain driving logs per state and federal regulations, and complete all required accident reports accurately. Inspect truck equipment including tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water; perform minor repairs and recognize mechanical deficiencies. Load and unload truck, place appropriate placards, and use blocks, rope, tarps, chains, and cables to secure cargo. Maintain telephone or radio contact with supervisor for delivery instructions, keep equipment clean, and provide service such as refueling. Follow all safety and legal requirements as required by locality. Perform other utility work when truck work is not available.
Required Qualifications
- High school education
- three years of related experience
- training
- equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid California Class A license
- Valid DOT Medical card
- Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public
- Ability to understand highway traffic signs and signals
- Ability to respond to official inquiries
- Ability to make entries on reports and records
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions
- Ability to read and comprehend short correspondence
- Ability to read and comprehend memos
