Job Summary
Operate automobiles, dump trucks, loaders, plows, and snow blowers to haul merchandise, equipment, and supplies for city construction and maintenance. Perform semi-skilled labor, make minor repairs, adjust belts, and service specialized equipment as needed. Maintain all operating equipment in good condition and keep detailed records of operations. Requires a valid Class B operator's license or ability to obtain one within six months, plus the ability to lift 60 lbs. Overtime is scheduled and non-scheduled. Join the Public Works team supporting city infrastructure and safety operations.
Required Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of the operation, use, and maintenance of the equipment to which is assigned.
- Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary in the operations of heavy equipment, along with delegating such compliance.
- Considerable knowledge of highway repair, maintenance methods and equipment operations.
- Skill in operation of Public Works maintenance equipment.
- Ability to take initiative in routine maintenance matters.
- Must be able to keep detailed records.
- Ability to understand, and carry out, written and oral instructions.
- Must possess a valid Class B operator's license, or the ability to obtain one during the first six-months of employment.
- Ability to operate all equipment safely around obstructions and personnel.
- Must be able to work well with others and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, officials and the public.
- Must be able to lift 60 lbs
