Job Summary
Plan and lead outdoor trips for the Cal Poly campus community while supervising participants and ensuring a safe environment. Complete all pre-trip and post-trip paperwork, track and return rental equipment, and maintain inventory at the Poly Escapes Rental Center. Respond to accidents, enforce safety policies, and mentor fellow program members. Practice Leave No Trace principles and provide quality customer service. Work up to 20 hours per week with availability for late nights, weekends, or holidays.
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled student at Cal Poly with a minimum of 6 units
- Graduate students must carry 4 units
- Wilderness First Aid and/or Wilderness First Responder certification
- Current American Red Cross certification in Adult CPR, AED, and First Aid
- Valid driver's license
- Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check)
- Ability to work late nights, weekends, or holidays
- Minimum of two consecutive terms of work availability
- Mandated reporter status under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in organized outdoor recreation programs with demonstrated competencies in leadership, student or participant development, inventory tracking, and risk management
- Experience teaching, leading or managing a group
- Strong organizational abilities
- Experience planning, facilitating, and/or evaluating outdoor trips
- Working knowledge of outdoor trip gear
- Basic knowledge of budgeting and spending tracking
