Job Summary
Manage all aspects of insurance defense litigation from case inception to verdict, including initial case assessment, discovery, depositions, motion practice, pre-trial negotiations, courtroom advocacy, and post-trial motions to ensure favorable outcomes. Gather and organize documents, evidence, and legal research for hearings, trials, arbitrations, mediations, and depositions; conduct legal research on relevant laws and case precedents. Prepare and draft pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and other legal documents. Interview clients and witnesses, drafting summaries of their statements and maintaining communication records. Monitor changes in laws and regulations, and assist in updating the legal team on potential impacts to ongoing cases. Participate in training sessions and mentorship programs to develop legal work. This role is for individuals early in their professional journey seeking courtroom and litigation experience. Successful completion of courses focused on legal research, writing, and analysis is required.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate
- Active membership in good standing with the Texas State Bar
- Southern District of Texas federal licensure
- Must be commutable distance to courthouses throughout the greater Houston, Texas area
- Successful completion of courses focused on legal research, writing, and analysis
- Demonstrates the ability to conduct thorough legal research and draft clear, well-structured legal documents
- Strong time management skills
- Capable of organizing case files, managing legal documents, and understanding the discovery process
- Skilled in communicating with clients, preparing summaries, and maintaining records of interactions
- Well-versed in legal ethics and the standards of professional conduct
- Equipped with fundamental negotiation techniques and strategies for client interactions and settlement discussions
- Reliable internet is required, with minimum speeds of 50 MB download and 5 MB upload
- Dedicated, private workspace free from distractions, along with appropriate desk and seating
- Must submit to a background investigation
