Job Summary
The Registered Nurse in the Provider in Triage (PIT) role at South Hospital ED focuses on improving emergency department throughput, patient flow, and reducing wait times by enabling earlier clinical assessment and intervention, with emphasis on patient safety and high-quality, patient-centered care. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive patient assessments, administering medications, planning and coordinating care with the multi-disciplinary team, educating patients and families, and supporting discharge planning. Essential competencies include nursing process, safety guidelines for medication administration, interprofessional collaboration, evidence-based practice, and ongoing professional development. Licensure in Kentucky, BLS (and PALS/ACLS as needed), and a nursing degree (ADN with BSN requirement within three years) are specified, along with a residency pathway for new graduates and ongoing professional education.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing (required)
- Current KY RN licensure or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky (required)
- Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification (required)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (may be required for specific clinical areas)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (may be required for specific clinical areas)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) within one (1) year of hire and complete an approved BSN program within three (3) years (required)
- Two years of hospital patient care experience (required)
