Job Summary
As a K-6 Special Education Paraprofessional, you will collaborate with the special education teacher to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and provide one-on-one or small group support to students during classroom activities. The role emphasizes developing social-emotional learning skills, creating an inclusive classroom environment, and assisting students with academic tasks. Essential qualifications include a high school diploma, relevant college credits or certifications, and experience with at-risk youth. Strong communication skills, patience, and physical stamina are crucial for effectively supporting students with special needs.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 36 hours of college credit, substitute certificate, or para praxis
- Experience working with at-risk youth or in alternative education settings would be beneficial
- Knowledge of special education principles, strategies, and techniques
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and staff
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of students and the classroom environment
- Physical stamina to assist with the physical demands of the job, which may include lifting or supporting students with mobility limitations
- Willingness to participate in professional development and training opportunities
