Job Summary
Tree Trimmer responsible for pruning and removing trees, limbs, and shrubs near power lines to reduce vegetation interference, using climbing and ground-based tools, rigging, and equipment. Performs duties aloft and on the ground, including felling trees with climbing gear and operating a woodchipper, while maintaining safety around energized conductors. Provides routine maintenance and records of herbicide application, assists with supervising non-qualified staff when qualified, and complies with OSHA and company safety rules. Responsibilities also include traffic control, coordinating with property owners and emergency personnel, vehicle and equipment inspections, and performing on-call/off-hour duties during emergencies or storms. Required and preferred qualifications include tree-trimming experience, OSHA/ANSI knowledge, ability to wear PPE, and First-Aid/CPR certification; may require a valid driver’s license and DOT medical card in accordance with division requirements; proficiency in English (and optional Spanish) and the ability to travel for emergencies.
Required Qualifications
- Must have basic knowledge of trees, including identification, growth habits and arboricultural techniques specific to trimming, pruning, repairing, maintaining and removing, in close proximity to energized conductors.
- Knowledge of ANSI Z133.1 current version and ANSI A300 standards for tree care operations and pruning.
- Ability to adhere to safety requirements and coach others on safety procedures.
- Must be able to read and interpret written and verbal job instructions and safety information.
- Minimum of 3 months of experience working on tree trimming or clearing crews or successful completion of applicable skills assessments.
- Must have or be able to obtain First-Aid and CPR certificates within 90 days of hire.
