Job Summary
Conduct ground-level and aloft tree pruning, felling, and vegetation removal to maintain clearance around power lines and equipment. Operate chainsaws, chippers, blowers, and spray equipment including truck-mounted and backpack units to mix and apply herbicides and pesticides according to label directions. Assist climbers by spotting from the ground, handing up tools, and using hand lines for rigging and felling. Maintain accurate records of chemical applications and areas treated in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Set up traffic control zones, direct traffic, and communicate with property owners and the public regarding vegetation management activities. Drive and operate trucks and specialized equipment while traveling frequently for work, including potential overnight stays to different job sites.
Required Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of tree species and arboriculture pruning techniques
- Ability to perform work at heights and use climbing gear or aerial lifts
- Ability to obtain and maintain a state-issued pesticide or herbicide applicator license
- Strong commitment to safety and environmental stewardship
- Ability to follow herbicide labels, application guidelines, and safety procedures accurately
- Attention to detail when mixing, measuring, and applying chemicals
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Reliable attendance, punctuality, and professional conduct on job sites
- Ability to read, write, and understand English
- Valid driver's license
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Herbicide applicator certification
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. to shoulder height or higher
- Push or pull up to 50 lbs.
- Walk or hike up to one mile on uneven terrain
- Hear, speak, see, and communicate effectively
- Operate two-handed tools and equipment
- Progress skill in tree ascent and descent
- Work and maneuver at considerable heights during adverse weather conditions
- Drive and operate trucks and specialized equipment (certification required)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a state-issued pesticide or herbicide applicator license
