Job Summary
Lead operator role at Lehigh County Authority overseeing water filtration and wastewater treatment across multiple facilities. Responsibilities include operating and overseeing treatment systems, monitoring control instrumentation and SCADA, providing direction and on-the-job instruction to Operator-in-Training staff, starting and regulating pumps/valves, logging system readings, collecting and analyzing process samples with precise chemical dosing, documenting equipment issues and coordinating maintenance, and rotating between facilities to expand technical expertise. Requires a PA Class A Water or Class A Wastewater Operator Certification, 2+ years of experience, valid driver’s license, ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and willingness to work a rotating night shift (6 PM–6 AM) including weekends/holidays. Candidates should have strong knowledge of treatment processes, equipment operation, and maintenance practices, plus proficiency with gauges, meters, SCADA, and computer-based monitoring systems, and be safety-focused with solid communication for cross-shift collaboration.
Required Qualifications
- valid PA Class A Water or Class A Wastewater Operator Certification (and ability to obtain required subclasses)
- 2+ years of experience operating or supporting a water or wastewater treatment facility
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks including climbing stairs and ladders
- Willingness to work a rotating night shift schedule (6:00 PM – 6:00 AM), including weekends and holidays
- Strong working knowledge of treatment processes, equipment operation, and routine maintenance practices
- Ability to read and interpret gauges, meters, and control systems accurately
- Comfort using SCADA and computer-based monitoring systems
- Proactive, safety-focused mindset and ability to identify and respond to operational issues in real time
- Strong communication skills to guide and collaborate with team members across shifts
