Traveling Superintendent – Ground-Up Grocery Retail Construction (Southeast)

Job Summary
Lead day-to-day field operations for ground-up grocery retail developments across the Southeast, directing on-site subcontractors and field personnel to maintain production momentum and strict construction sequencing. Coordinate highly specialized grocery scopes (MEP coordination, commercial refrigeration rough-ins, walk-ins, deli/bakery, and specialty grocery utilities), manage site logistics and OFCI equipment/packages, and collaborate with Project Managers, engineers, architects, inspectors, and corporate clients to ensure brand guidelines, safety, and timely turnover. Monitor productivity, cost controls, and progress through daily reports and look-ahead schedules to protect critical grand opening dates; oversee handoffs, inspections, punch lists, and occupancy approvals. Ensure 100% OSHA-compliant safety culture and maintain high standards of quality and client satisfaction.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of experience as a Lead Construction Superintendent focusing on ground-up grocery and major retail builds
- Proven track record of leading Publix grocery store builds from excavation through turnover
- Strong knowledge of grocery retail construction specs, finish quality, fixture phasing, building envelope, and brand compliance
- Strong leadership and communication skills with ability to manage large subcontractor trades and maintain schedule pressure
- Familiarity with safety protocols; OSHA 10 or 30-Hour certification preferred
- Willingness to travel extensively throughout the Southeastern United States on a project-by-project basis
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
