Traveling Project Engineer

Job Summary

Coordinate all phases of heavy civil and renewable energy construction projects across the United States by working daily alongside project managers, superintendents, and field crews. Develop thorough understanding of project plans, specifications, schedules, and contracts to ensure safe, efficient, on-schedule, and budget-compliant delivery. Prepare and maintain comprehensive project documentation including submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and meeting minutes while assisting in contract administration and change order processing. Monitor project costs, labor productivity, and equipment usage to support accurate forecasting and assist with monthly cost reporting and pay applications. Maintain regular communication with clients, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors to manage relationships and anticipate project needs. Promote safety compliance with OSHA regulations and company policies while performing additional duties as assigned to support successful project delivery.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be willing and able to travel 100% of the time and relocate to project sites throughout the United States for extended project assignments
  • Must be comfortable working primarily in an active construction field environment rather than a traditional office setting
  • Minimum of 3 years of construction experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field
  • OSHA 30 certification, or the ability to obtain within an established timeframe
  • Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and construction management software
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to thrive in changing project environments
  • Physical and mental ability to perform essential duties safely and effectively, including walking active construction sites daily over uneven terrain
  • Physical and mental ability to stand, climb, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching for extended periods
  • Physical and mental ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Physical and mental ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Physical and mental ability to operate standard office equipment, computers, tablets, and other field technology
  • Physical and mental ability to see to inspect project work, plans, and documentation
  • Physical and mental ability to hear and speak clearly to communicate effectively with project teams, clients, and subcontractors

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in heavy civil construction, renewable energy, utility, transmission, or infrastructure projects
  • Experience with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, SureTrak, or similar scheduling software
  • Working knowledge of SWPPP requirements and environmental compliance
  • Knowledge of electrical power grid infrastructure
  • Knowledge of AIA prime contracts and general contract conditions
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and project schedules
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and field personnel
