Traveling Calibration Technician (Level 3)

Job Summary

Perform calibrations on medium to high level test and measurement instrumentation at customer locations, covering force, pressure, torque, temperature, infrared thermometry, dimensional, DC, and low frequency ranges. Conduct on-site calibrations within Mobile Calibration Laboratories and fixed sites while performing equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on unique electronic, mechanical, and thermal devices. Create and verify calibration data sheets based on specifications and approved procedures, ensuring customer satisfaction across all services. Travel to service customers in the Western, Midwestern, and Southeastern regions via air or ground transportation. This traveling position requires 5-7 years of commercial or military laboratory experience and proficiency in metrology practices, ISO/IEC 17025, and statistical techniques for measurement uncertainty analysis.

Required Qualifications

  • Military (PMEL) experience or two years of a technical associates degree
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of commercial or military laboratory experience
  • Strong knowledge of metrology practices and theories, analog and digital circuit analysis
  • Experienced in some or all of test and measurement equipment used in conjunction with the repair and calibration of electronic, mechanical, acoustical, chemical, thermal and/or dimensional devices
  • Possess strong troubleshooting and repair capabilities, and the ability to work on unique equipment with little or no product information
  • Proficient in Windows-based and laboratory automation software
  • Ability to apply basic statistical techniques necessary for measurement uncertainty analysis
  • Working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 and ANSI/NCSL Z540-1 requirements
  • Skilled in communication with customers and peers, including the ability to mentor and train
  • Travel to service our customers in the Midwest and Southeast
  • Travel might be by air or ground transportation depending on the customer location

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of ANSI / NCSL Z-540 and ISO 9000
  • Experience using Calibration software such as: LabView, SureCal, Met/Cal, National Instruments, etc.
