Job Summary
Conduct echocardiogram studies on outpatients and inpatients, including adult transthoracic, transesophageal, pediatric, stress, and intraoperative procedures. Operate equipment using M-mode, 2D, spectral Doppler, and color Doppler techniques to visualize cardiac anatomy, assess valves, and evaluate blood flow direction and speed. Search for cardiac pathology and record significant functional, anatomical, and pathological data. Review and screen echocardiography data to notify cardiologists of critical abnormalities, compile records for interpretation, and schedule patients for examinations. Maintain cardio-pulmonary resuscitation certification, function in Code 500 situations, and ensure adequate supply stock. Train new hire diagnostic cardiac sonographers and perform clerical tasks such as logging tests, coding for fee collection, and filing.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in adult or pediatric echocardiography
- Successful completion of training program (pre-hire, post-hire, or on-the-job) in area of specialty, if applicable
- Successful completion of accredited (CAAHEP/CMA approved or equivalent) ultrasound/vascular technology education program specializing in echocardiography
- Equivalent related experience
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer Certificate OR Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Certificate
- Basic Life Support from American Heart Association
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in customer service
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in interpersonal relations
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in oral communication
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in problem solving
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in teamwork
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in written communication
