Job Summary
Assess patients transferring from the operating room and monitor vital signs, consciousness levels, and recovery from anesthesia. Administer prescribed medications and treatments per post-anesthesia protocols while maintaining awareness of comfort and safety needs. Respond promptly to emergency situations using PACU standards, document assessments and interventions in medical records, and collaborate with the surgical team for comprehensive post-operative care. Develop individualized education plans for patients and families, including discharge instructions, and participate in handoff communications to ensure continuity between the OR, PACU, and post-PACU units. Operate PACU-specific equipment such as ventilators and infusion pumps.
Required Qualifications
- One year of recent experience as a PACU RN
- Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
- Current BLS (AHA/ARC) certification
- ACLS (AHA/ARC) certification
- Critical thinking
- Service excellence
- Good interpersonal communication skills
- The ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language
- Ability to read/comprehend written instructions
- Follow verbal instructions
- Proficiency in PC skills
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position
