Job Summary
Educate patients and families about oncology procedures and treatments, addressing concerns and fostering understanding. Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved oncology nursing techniques while preparing and maintaining oncology-specific equipment. Monitor and address patient comfort, safety, and side effects, implementing interventions to enhance quality of life. Assess and monitor patients, recording conditions and reactions, and maintain detailed documentation of nursing assessments, interventions, and outcomes. Respond to life-saving situations based upon oncology nursing standards and protocols. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and advocate for patients navigating complex treatment plans. Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice while adhering to hospital safety protocols and infection control guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- One year of recent experience as an Oncology RN
- Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
- Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
- The ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language
- Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), push, pull, and bend
- Must be able to work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalism
- Must have the ability to grasp, perform fine manipulation, push/pull, and move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment
- Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public and customers while meeting deadlines under pressure
- Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally, as well as working without assistance from other personnel
- Must be able to contend with irregular activity schedules occasionally and continuous concentration to detail
- Must possess visual acuity and ability to effectively communicate
Desired Qualifications
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification
- ACLS (AHA/ARC) certification
