Job Summary
Conduct routine and moderately complex laboratory tests across chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, and toxicology. Prepare and process specimens, ensuring accurate labeling, while maintaining equipment and troubleshooting malfunctions. Support transfusion reaction investigations by collecting samples and communicate test results to healthcare professionals. Adhere to quality control protocols, regulatory guidelines, and infection control standards. Maintain detailed records of calibrations and inventory management. Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice.
Required Qualifications
- One year of recent experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician
- Valid license when needed in compliance with any state regulations
- The ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language
- Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), push, pull, and bend
- Must be able to work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalism
- Must have the ability to grasp, perform fine manipulation, push/pull, and move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment
- Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public and customers while meeting deadlines under pressure
- Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally, as well as working without assistance from other personnel
- Must be able to contend with irregular activity schedules occasionally and continuous concentration to detail
- Must possess visual acuity and ability to effectively communicate
Desired Qualifications
- National certification through ASCP or equivalent such as AMT, AAB, HEW certifications
- Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
