Job Summary

The Trauma Registry Specialist will maintain and complete the Trauma Registry databases (inpatient and outpatient) covering pre-hospital through final outcome phases, ensuring current, accurate data. Responsibilities include abstracting data from medical records, entering complete data into the on-line registry, performing data validation, and generating reports to support Trauma Program Operations and Performance Improvement. The role requires interpreting medical records, coordinating with the Medical Records Department for chart retrieval, and preparing data for regional, state, and EMS committees. The position emphasizes adherence to ACS standards, HIPAA compliance, quality improvement initiatives, and clear communication with internal and external stakeholders. Excellent typing, data-entry skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision are essential. Education prerequisites include a high school graduate or equivalent, with desirable college coursework in data-related fields; CTR certification is preferred at hire. The role is part-time (32 hours/week, days) at MarinHealth Medical Center in Greenbrae, CA.

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • 1-2 years’ experience in abstracting data from medical records
  • Experience in data collection using ICD-10 clinical manager codes preferred
  • Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) preferred at hire
  • Strong typing and computer skills (data entry/retrieval techniques)
  • Ability to read and interpret medical records and enter complete data into on-line computer system
  • Demonstrated ability to work accurately under department timelines with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated communication/interpersonal skills and ability to interact with diverse individuals
  • Knowledge of patient privacy requirements (HIPAA) and confidentiality of records
  • Ability to collaborate with Trauma Specialist and other departments to prepare reports for committees
  • Familiarity with American College of Surgeon Standards for trauma data
  • Adaptability and commitment to quality improvement
