Trauma Counselor - Safe Way Forward

Job Summary

Conduct trauma-focused mental health treatment for domestic violence survivors, their children, and persons causing harm using evidence-based models. Administer trauma screenings, develop treatment goals, and provide crisis intervention through individual, dyadic, and group sessions. Perform comprehensive assessments, engage in safety planning, and conduct home visits while maintaining clear documentation in computerized records. Collaborate with the Safe Way Forward team and external providers to coordinate services for families impacted by intimate partner violence. Participate in regular case reviews, supervision, and team conferences to manage mixed caseloads. Work in a hybrid schedule of two on-site days and three remote days, with flexibility for evening work as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (LMSW) or related field
  • License required
  • Prior experience working with children and families impacted by domestic violence, abuse and/or trauma
  • Ability to work evenings as needed and maintain a flexible work schedule
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Basic understanding of computer and systems for managing case records

Desired Qualifications

  • Bilingual Spanish/English fluency
  • Experience with family therapy or individual therapy preferred with survivors of domestic violence or persons causing harm in a trauma-informed setting
  • Knowledge of the New York City domestic violence service system, public benefits, child welfare, housing system and other social services
