Trash Truck Driver - Side Load

Job Summary
Operates a residential waste collection truck on assigned routes, using a joystick to control the side-loader arm to pick up and unload containers into the hopper, while sustaining safety, accuracy with route sheets, and DOT compliance. Performs pre- and post-trip inspections, maintains vehicle cleanliness and documentation, communicates with dispatch, and delivers solid waste/recyclables to designated facilities. Requires a valid CDL (Class A or B), DOT medical card, and strong customer service skills.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License or Class B CDL
- DOT medical card
- Meet Federal & State DOT requirements
- 3+ years of satisfactory driving experience with Class A or B vehicles
- Pass drug screen and criminal background check
- Successfully complete and pass a written and road test
- Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to operate a residential recycling/solid waste collection truck and ancillary equipment
- Knowledge of pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Compliance with safety procedures and route documentation
- Experience with operating a side-loader and joystick controls
- Ability to load, secure, and unload waste and recyclables
- Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions
- Adherence to route sheets and DOT regulations
- Reports vehicle mechanical problems and maintains vehicle condition
