Job Summary
Transport patients, visitors, and patient-related items throughout the Mayo Clinic campus while managing requests via iPhone and pager. Operate multiple types of motorized transport equipment, pushing and pulling patients up to 350 pounds, and perform wheelchair roundups to storage locations. Assist patients in and out of wheelchairs and stretchers, confirm oxygen requirements with nurses, and adhere to medical isolation protocols. Disinfect equipment after each use, request maintenance, and provide detailed verbal communication during drop-offs and pickups. Complete a minimum of 80 hours of on-the-job training and attend meetings outside normal schedules. Working hours include days, evenings, overnights, holidays, and weekends with rotating days off.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to function independently and as a team member with minimal supervision or direction
- Possess knowledge with the use of a smart phone
- Must be able to stand and/or walk 10-12 miles per 8-hour shift
- Must be able to push/pull patients up to 200 pounds and occasionally up to or exceeding 350 pounds
- Must demonstrate proficiency in the safe operation of multiple types of motorized patient transport equipment
- Must have exceptional fine motor skills
- Must have full use of hands
- Must have ability to perform repetitive wrist and elbow movements
- Must have ability to perform repetitive foot motions
- Must have ability to perform trunk rotate/twist/reach actions
- Must be able to disinfect equipment after each patient use
- Must be able to request maintenance as needed through the appropriate channels
- Must be able to transport patients who require the use of oxygen, intravenous pumps, wound vacs and/or other special equipment
- Must be able to assist patients in and out of wheelchairs/stretchers
- Must be able to perform correct patient identification by utilizing two patient identifiers (name and date of birth)
- Must be able to confirm with a nurse that the patient has a minimum of 30 minutes of oxygen before transportation occurs
- Must be able to use a slider board and slider sheet to transfer patients to/from beds and/or stretchers with assistance from other care team members
- Must be able to confirm with staff and adhere to the medical isolation precautions and protocols
- Must be able to provide detailed verbal communication to appropriate staff during the drop off and pick up of patients in the inpatient setting
- Must be available for working hours including days, evenings, overnights, holidays, and weekends with rotating days off
- Must be able to attend meetings outside of their normal work schedule
- Must be able to assist in the training of new employees
- Must complete a minimum of 80 hours of on the job training
