Job Summary
Inspect contractor operations on roadway and bridge construction projects to verify conformance with plans and specifications. Supervise and maintain subordinate inspection staff while measuring and tracking quantities of pay items. Gather and maintain record documents including material certifications, testing reports, and inspector's daily diaries. Interact with the public, government agencies, contractors, and subcontractors to resolve field issues. Perform moderate physical activity including walking, climbing, balancing, and kneeling in an outside environment with exposure to hazards. Work nights and weekends as required.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution
- five (5) years of progressive technician level experience
- Active driver's license
- Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans
- Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems
- Thorough understanding of DOT Standards and Specifications and Roadway Standard Drawings
- Ability to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain
- Ability to perform moderate physical activity including but not limited to walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
- Must be able to work nights and weekends as required
- Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification
Desired Qualifications
- NCDOT certifications including Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing
- Experience with local clients
