Job Summary
Transportation Supervisor responsible for the administration, supervision, and compliance of the school division’s pupil transportation program under VDOE and FMCSA rules. Coordinates daily operations, maintains driver qualifications, oversees fleet preventive maintenance, and serves as a substitute school bus driver when needed. Ensures safe, efficient, and uninterrupted bus transportation; develops routes; monitors safety, emergency response, and reporting; manages driver records and testing compliance; enforces regulatory standards and maintains documentation. Requires CDL with school bus endorsements and knowledge of VDOE/FMCSA regulations; strong organizational and communication skills; 12-month position with Giles County Public Schools.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with school bus and passenger endorsements required, or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe as a condition of employment
- Must meet all Virginia school bus driver physical, medical, and training requirements
- Knowledge of VDOE pupil transportation regulations, Virginia CDL requirements, and FMCSA compliance standards
- Ability to safely operate a school bus under varying road and weather conditions
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
