Transportation Specialist

Job Summary
Transport residents to and from arranged locations while following safety rules during boarding, exiting, and near cross streets. Operate vehicles in compliance with traffic regulations, checking vehicle condition monthly and reporting malfunctions. Maintain passenger order during transit, pick up and drop off residents at scheduled times, and keep the vehicle interior clean. Attend community outings as assigned and perform related duties. Must possess a CDL, high school education, and current CPR certification. Requires ability to lift 50 pounds and work with diverse populations including the ill, disabled, and emotionally upset individuals.
Required Qualifications
- High school education or equivalent
- Unencumbered driver's license
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Excellent communication skills
- At least 18 years of age
- Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote and ensure safe transport at all times
- Current CPR certification or ability to become certified within ninety (90) days of employment
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language in an understandable manner
- Patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm
- Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday
- Ability to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
- Sight/hearing senses or use of prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met
- Ability to function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, family members, personnel, and support agencies
- Good general health and demonstration of emotional stability
- Ability to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, young, emotionally upset and at times, hostile people
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, resident in excess of fifty (50) pounds throughout the day
- Exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to the (HIV) AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses
