Job Summary
Design and complete assigned roadway engineering projects, including preliminary, right-of-way, and final engineering design. Perform calculations, prepare material specifications, and generate preliminary sketches using project specifications and detailed drawings. Plan, schedule, and execute all phases of highway design projects while collaborating with engineers and project managers to ensure drawing accuracy. Use CAD software to support design efforts and prepare notes for drawings. Work primarily in an office setting with occasional travel and potential weekend or overtime requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
- 0-3 years of previous roadway engineering experience
- Must be willing to travel on occasion
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver's license prior to employment preferred
Desired Qualifications
- EI certification a plus (at minimum-FE exam should be scheduled)
- Knowledge of Open Roads and/or MicroStation / GEOPAK / Corridor Modeling software a plus
- Experience with NCDOT design standards and practices is preferred
- Basic Microsoft Excel & Word skills
- Must be able to carry, lift and push/pull up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Must have visual acuity for viewing a computer screen, the ability to talk, hear and sit for extended periods of time
