Job Summary

Transportation Project Engineer responsible for managing and executing city transportation improvement projects under the City Engineer. Provides project management, supervision, and technical expertise across areas including design, construction management, and construction inspections for transportation, traffic, and storm water infrastructure. Ensures regulatory compliance with Federal, State, and City standards; coordinates with consultants and contractors; develops schedules, reviews designs and reports, issues bid documents and addenda, and evaluates proposals. Manages multi-division data collection, prepares program and progress reports, and supports budgets and strategic goals. Requires strong communication with supervisors, elected officials, and the public, and experience with GDOT processes and public works regulations. Requires a Bachelor’s in civil engineering (or related field), 5 years municipal civil engineering experience with 3 years in transportation project management, and a Georgia driver’s license; EIT/PE preferences and drug screen/background checks at hire.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in municipal civil engineering with at least 3 years transportation project management experience or similar
  • State of Georgia Engineer in Training certification at time of hire is preferred or ability to obtain within Working Test Period
  • State of Georgia Professional Engineering Registration preferred or ability to obtain within Working Test Period
  • Knowledge and skill using Word and Excel is required
  • Knowledge and skill using AutoCAD or MicroStation is preferred
  • Knowledge of codes and ordinances of the city, including development codes such as utility, flood plain, soil and erosion control, and storm water detention
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations applicable to a municipal Public Works environment
  • GDOT Plan Development Process, GDOT right of way acquisition practices, GDOT inspection requirements and other regulations regarding transportation construction projects
  • Must have good management skills to include ability to manage consultant activities, budgets, schedules, and permit processes
  • Ability to plan and organize schedules
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing including dealing with citizen complaints and making various presentations
  • Valid Georgia Driver’s License & a satisfactory seven-year driving history to include no DUI's within the last 5 years
  • Drug Screen and background check at time of hire required
