Job Summary
Transportation Planner to support NYC Planning & Environment projects with data-driven analyses. Responsibilities include researching data sources, using GIS or traffic/safety software to manipulate data and assess scenarios, developing conceptual planning alternatives, preparing maps and presentation materials, coordinating with project teams, participating in client meetings, and producing plans, studies, reports, and environmental documents. Requires strong data synthesis, reporting, and communication skills, plus proficiency with tools such as Synchro, VISSIM, AIMSUN, Python, R, and Excel, with experience in transit, pedestrian, and bicycle planning.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering, or related field and 4 years related professional experience
- Master’s Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering, or related field and 3 years of relevant experience
- Proficiency in professional demand modeling or traffic simulation software (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM, AIMSUN)
- Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas and VBA
- Working knowledge of Python and/or R for data analysis and modeling
- Experience in transit planning and analysis, and/or design and evaluation of pedestrian and bicycle facilities
- Ability to synthesize data and draft clear, well-structured reports
- Experience delivering presentations and communicating technical analyses to internal teams and stakeholders
- Professional Engineer (PE), American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), Professional Transportation Planner (PTP) preferred
