Job Summary
Assist with the repair and maintenance of state roadways, bridges, and rights-of-way by performing debris removal, vegetation control, and general maintenance tasks. Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and roadway maintenance equipment while conducting routine inspections and reporting deficiencies. Participate as an active member of the maintenance crew to complete assigned projects, support emergency operations including snow removal and storm response, and respond to call-outs for evenings, weekends, and severe weather events. Maintain clean, organized work areas and wear required personal protective equipment at all times. Adhere to OSHA, VOSHA, and VDOT safety policies while working collaboratively with supervisors to accomplish project objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of roadway maintenance methods, equipment, materials, and procedures
- Experience operating roadway maintenance equipment and performing preventive maintenance
- Experience using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
- Ability to work safely in outdoor environments under varying weather conditions
- Ability to respond to emergency operations, including nights, weekends, holidays, storms, and disaster response
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and teamwork
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Successful completion of required VDOT and industry-specific training
- Pre-employment drug screening
- Criminal background check
