Job Summary
Diagnose, adjust, and repair district vehicles, including school buses, by inspecting equipment for safe operating conditions and performing scheduled preventative maintenance. Maintain tools and respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns. Service bus and transportation equipment while substituting for bus drivers when needed. Ensure all activities conform to district, state, and federal guidelines and maintain a clean, organized workspace. Complete required physical exam and 20 hours behind-the-wheel training; ASE Bus Mechanic Certification preferred. Work cooperatively with supervisors, co-workers, teachers, and students in a fast-paced environment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid CDL License with required endorsements or be willing to attain
- Meet all State requirements for Bus Drivers, including Defensive Driving and First Aid Certification or be willing to meet
- Complete required physical exam for Bus Drivers
- 20 hours behind the wheel training
- Ability to plan and manage projects
- Knowledge of equipment used in bus maintenance
- Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors, co-workers, teachers and students
- Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions
- Ability to perform responsibilities without necessity of close supervision
- Ability to effectively communicate with the school district community
- Ability to meet attendance standards to perform the essential functions of the job
- Ability to maintain a generally positive attitude
- Exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25-50 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10-20 pounds of force constantly
- Extended periods of sitting and/or standing
- Must be able to adapt to a fast-paced, multi-faceted work environment
- Must drive automobile
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing, frequent stooping, bending, reaching, kneeling, crawling, turning, climbing and balancing
- Must work indoors and outdoors, and in noisy and crowded environments year-round
- Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in school transportation
- ASE Bus Mechanic Certification
