Transportation Manager

Job Summary

Oversee all transportation activities including route delivery, account processing, and dispatching for the regional and metro driver teams. Schedule drivers and assign routes to maximize productivity while ensuring compliance with DOT regulations and company rules. Manage the entire driver team by engaging professionals, conducting safety meetings, and performing road tests for all CDL drivers. Coordinate backhauls, inbound freight, and act as a liaison between the transportation team, shipping, mechanics, and senior management. Provide exceptional customer service, handle roadside repairs, and serve as the point of contact for fleet support issues. Maintain driver files, pre-employment screenings, and drug tests in accordance with DOT regulations. Act as backup driver as needed and be available evenings, weekends, and holidays. Report directly to Company Officers with full authority over the regional driver team.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have current Class A CDL with proof of medical examiner's certificate in accordance with DOT regulations
  • Must have at least 5 years OTR driving experience
  • Must have working knowledge of DOT regulations and audit requirements
  • Must have at least 5 years prior management or supervision experience
  • Must have strong mechanical aptitude
  • Must have at least 1 year prior working experience at River City Produce
  • Must be able to read and write English
  • Must be able to satisfactorily pass DOT road test for Class A driver
  • Must be able to sit up to 6-9 hours daily (total)
  • Must be able to stand up to 3-5 hours daily (total)
  • Must be able to lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds, independently without assistance
  • Must be able to have corrected vision
  • Must be able to work around noise and/or vibration generated by the truck and other equipment
  • Must be able to work around fumes, dust, gases and odors
  • Must be able to work in cold warehouse environments (33°- 56°F)
  • Must be able to work in warm outdoor environment (up to 100°+ F)
  • Must be available evenings, weekends and holidays, as required by business demands
  • Must be able to identify a hazard, should one occur, in order to avoid it, by reporting immediately or, if directed, by taking corrective measures
  • High school diploma or GED required

Desired Qualifications

  • Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish)
  • Strong familiarity with ELD software (River City Produce uses Forward Thinking for dispatching, ELD and Hour of Service tracking, driver routes, driver behaviors, etc.)
  • Must be able to adapt and learn to navigate dispatching and ELD software, particularly Forward Thinking
