Job Summary
Lead the Transportation department by managing personnel, driving efficient outbound shipments, and ensuring safe, accurate, and timely deliveries to customers and distribution centers. Champion safety procedures, conduct routine driver meetings, and oversee maintenance of qualification files while investigating accidents to implement preventative action. Direct and supervise drivers and clerical associates through one-on-one coaching, performance reviews, and hiring, ensuring adherence to DOT regulations and zero-error attitudes. Monitor production goals, troubleshoot delivery problems, and identify waste to improve processes. Schedule working shifts using planning tools and maintain a safety-first culture focused on people, service, and cost. Spend significant time on the road and in trucks with drivers, with 10% travel required for meetings and training.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of experience in transportation/delivery or warehouse distribution
- Minimum of one year of experience overseeing a workforce
- High school diploma or GED
- Broad knowledge of transportation/delivery operations, methods and procedures
- Strong understanding of DOT requirements
- Familiarity with inventory control, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements
- Ability to interpret financial and operational data
- Basic computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office)
- Must be able to perform physical activities including standing, walking, driving, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, climbing/balancing, stooping/squatting, kneeling, bending, reaching above shoulder, twisting, grasping objects, manipulating objects, and manual dexterity as described in the Physical Qualifications section
- Must be able to spend significant amount of time on the road
- Must spend portion of working time in a truck with drivers
- Must be able to work in an office environment working on a computer
- 10% travel required, typically for mandatory meetings and/or training
