Job Summary
Monitor traffic cameras, electronic signs, and incident reporting systems to maintain situational awareness of the State DOT road network. Dispatch DOT staff and contracted crews for routine and emergency maintenance, including pothole repair, snow removal, and traffic control device upkeep. Coordinate response to unauthorized road closures and verify traveler information accuracy across DOT channels and public service platforms. Utilize CCTV, crowdsourcing apps, and Intelligent Transportation Systems to manage hotspots, smart work zones, and lane alignment changes. Report equipment issues and communicate clearly via radio or telephone to stakeholders. Work a 24/7/365 schedule with on-call rotation in a fast-paced environment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English
- Proficiency in communicating information over a radio system or network
- Expertise in using freeway management and other traffic control computer applications
- Strong ability to write reports and correspondence
- Effective coordination of real-time activities and priorities
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a diverse team
- Experience in handling calls, dispatching via radio or telephone, and communicating clearly and concisely
- Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in using computers with Windows-based applications
- Flexibility to work alternate schedules and be on-call as necessary
- Familiarity with Regional DOT Interstates and local roadways
- Experience in public safety, emergency management, transportation dispatch, or related fields
- Successful completion of a criminal background check
