Job Summary

Lead and oversee daily transportation operations for the Shelter Hotline in Washington, DC, supervising staff, coordinating fleet resources, and serving as the liaison among government agencies, service providers, customers, city officials, and internal personnel. Responsible for planning routes, monitoring performance, ensuring safety and compliance, preparing reports, and maintaining bed availability information in coordination with city shelters. Requires CDL (A or B) with passenger endorsement and 2 years of CDL driving experience, high school diploma or GED, and thorough knowledge of DC geography. Must be able to work varied hours including nights, holidays, and weekends, and effectively interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook and Word) and electronic time-keeping programs, plus strong organizational and communication skills. First-aid/CPR certification and homeless-services experience are preferred; background check and drug screening will be required.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two years of experience operating a 24-passenger vehicle
  • CDL driver’s license with A or B class license with passenger endorsement, air brakes, DOT passenger safety protocol, emergency procedures and 2 years of CDL driving experience
  • Current five (5) year driving record cannot exceed more than two points
  • Ability to work a varied schedule, including nights, holidays and weekends, and drive during all types of weather
  • Comprehensive geographic knowledge of Washington, DC
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs (Outlook and Word) and electronic time-keeping programs
  • Organizational and professional communication skills
  • Ability to read and write reports
  • Ability to work well under extreme pressure
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • First-Aid & CPR certification (preferred)
  • Experience working with homeless population (preferred)
  • Criminal background check and/or FBI fingerprinting and pre-employment drug screening (as applicable)
