Job Summary
Perform on-site inspection of highway, bridge, and roadway construction projects to ensure compliance with DOT standards and safety regulations. Review construction plans and shop drawings, document daily activities through reports and field notes, and conduct material sampling for asphalt, concrete, and soils. Monitor contractor adherence to quality and schedule requirements while coordinating with engineers to resolve field issues. Identify and report discrepancies promptly, maintain accurate project records, and participate in pre-construction and progress meetings. Stay current with DOT specifications and procedures. This role covers multiple areas in Southeastern Missouri including Cape Girardeau, Sikeston, and Jackson.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license
- Reliable transportation to project sites
- Ability to work independently in a field environment
Desired Qualifications
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field
- Experience in transportation or civil construction inspection (1–5 years)
- Familiarity with DOT construction standards, specifications, and inspection procedures
- Knowledge of materials testing procedures for asphalt, concrete, soils, and aggregates
- Strong understanding of construction safety standards and field inspection protocols
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with inspection software or databases
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to produce clear, concise inspection reports
- Strong attention to detail
