Job Summary
Manage daily bus dispatch by assigning routes and vehicles to drivers while monitoring two-way radio communications and responding to emergency requests. Answer incoming calls, document concerns, and direct messages to appropriate staff, then track absences and assign substitutes. Prepare route data, coordinate schedules for general and special education programs, and utilize routing and fleet tracking software to monitor travel paths and address variances. Notify drivers, parents, and schools of service changes and maintain records for state reports. Serve as a substitute driver when needed and follow all safety protocols. Work irregular hours including early mornings and late evenings, with a requirement for 226 days annually.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Texas CDL (B) with P/S endorsement, or obtain within 6 months of employment
- Ability to use maps and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to follow routes and locate addresses
- Effective telephone and communication skills
- Ability to handle large work volume and multiple priorities
- Ability to read and understand documents including policies and procedures manuals
- Ability to receive and give written and verbal instructions
- Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- 1-2 years previous dispatch experience (preferred)
- 1-2 years secretarial experience (preferred)
- 1-2 years experience as a certified school bus driver (preferred)
