Job Summary
Coordinate daily school bus routes and driver assignments to ensure appropriate coverage for Richmond Community Schools. Manage morning and afternoon dispatch activities, respond to driver call-offs, and adjust schedules based on operational needs. Use the Transportation Management System to support daily operations and maintain ongoing communication with drivers, school personnel, and parents regarding routes and service issues. Coordinate driver and equipment coverage for field trips, athletics, and summer school in partnership with the Operations Manager. Communicate accidents, incidents, injuries, and safety concerns promptly to appropriate departments while supporting compliance with transportation policies. Assist with interviewing and onboarding new drivers as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Previous transportation, dispatch, school bus, logistics, or similar operations experience
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Ability to coordinate multiple routes, drivers, and changing operational needs
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with drivers, school personnel, parents/guardians, and coworkers
- Dependable, professional, and able to work independently
Desired Qualifications
- experience preferred
- Comfortable learning and using Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and other computer-based programs
- School bus or student transportation experience is strongly preferred
