Job Summary
Inspect materials used by contractors on highway construction sites and document compliance with specifications while reading and interpreting construction plans for structures, bridges, and roadways. Perform tests for specification compliance and document pay quantities for monthly and final estimates across various phases of contractor work. This full-time role is based in Cape May, New Jersey, requiring a valid driver's license, own transportation, and the ability to work in potentially harsh outdoor conditions including heights and heavy equipment. Candidates must be able to stand and walk on uneven surfaces for long periods and lift up to 40 pounds.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in the transportation construction industry including: paving/asphalt, surveying, traffic signals, flagger/traffic control and road or bridge construction and maintenance, or relatable experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to read, write, comprehend and speak English fluently
- Attendance, punctuality and reliability are essential requirements
- Valid driver's license with own transportation
- Ability to pass a fingerprint/background check
- Ability to conduct themselves safely as we work in potentially harsh outside environmental conditions, such as environmental hazards and highway construction sites including heights, heavy equipment and highway traffic
- Position requires the ability to stand and walk on uneven surfaces for long periods of time and be able to lift up to 40 pounds
Desired Qualifications
- Education/training in civil engineering, construction technology or related field preferred
- Familiarity with use of PC-based computer systems and/or tablet systems
