Job Summary
Oversee the construction phase of infrastructure projects from contract administration, managing documents including bidding packages, change orders, RFIs, and daily work reports. Develop construction contract documents for bid negotiation and review pre-bid plans for constructability. Resolve field issues through direct communication with owners, contractors, and agencies, while preparing field directives and sketching. Attend pre-construction and progress meetings to prosecute projects, visit construction sites to document observations, and review contractor schedules and cost estimates. Apprise the Project Manager of progress and seek direction on salient issues.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- 5+ years additional training / experience in drainage, grading, earthwork, and transportation/utility work
- Progressively responsible experience independently coordinating, scheduling and managing documents control in a wide variety of construction projects
- Working knowledge of office software (MS Word & Excel) and associated equipment
- Considerable knowledge of drainage, grading, earthwork operation, roadway and utility construction methods, materials, standards and construction symbols and terminology
- Working knowledge of state and federal safety, environment, and EEO/DBE guidelines and regulations
- Ability to read, understand and interpret civil engineering plans, architectural plans and contract specifications
- Ability to think logically and systematically through the various phases of a project
- Ability to prepare and allocate time and effort across multiple projects in multiple geographic locations and prioritize daily and weekly tasks
- Valid state driver's license
- Ability to drive a vehicle
Desired Qualifications
- Professional Registration
- A current working knowledge of prevailing market rates for major cost items (earthwork, pipe installation, site concrete, etc.) for site construction projects
- Familiarity with VDOT Road and Bridge Standards and Construction specifications
- Prior experience with engineering design
- Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Working knowledge of MS Project (or equal)
- Ability to prepare or work with CAD drawings
