Job Summary

Check in drivers at the dock window, collect and verify paperwork, and communicate load-readiness to the dock team. Walk the floor and dock regularly to check trailers, confirm load status, and support timely closing of departures. Perform checks and balances to catch errors before trailers close, track shipments, and provide proactive status updates to stakeholders. Coordinate with the 4PL transportation team, RXO, on routing and shipment needs, enter routing information in TMS, and log OSD claims for resolution. Ensure documentation accuracy, including BOL and pallet counts, and coordinate dock scheduling to support outbound shipping priorities. Maintain adequate supply of shipping materials and assist with day-to-day communication between shifts and leadership. This role supports daily traffic and transportation operations at the Des Plaines distribution center, helping ensure outbound freight moves accurately and on schedule.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to work on-site in Des Plaines, IL
  • Must report to the office every business day
  • Must be able to check in drivers at the dock window
  • Must be able to collect and verify paperwork
  • Must be able to communicate load-readiness to the dock team
  • Must be able to walk the floor and dock regularly
  • Must be able to check trailers and confirm load status
  • Must be able to perform checks and balances / fail-safe reviews
  • Must be able to send reminders to keep loading on schedule
  • Must be able to track shipments
  • Must be able to provide proactive status updates to internal stakeholders and customers
  • Must be able to communicate and coordinate with the 4PL (third-party logistics) transportation team
  • Must be able to enter and monitor routing information in TMS (RXO)
  • Must be able to log and route OSD (Over, Short, Damaged) claims
  • Must be able to ensure documentation accuracy
  • Must be able to coordinate dock scheduling
  • Must be able to maintain adequate supply of shipping materials
  • Must be able to support shipment consolidation efforts
  • Must be able to assist with day-to-day communication between shifts, dock teams, and Transportation leadership
  • Must have strong administrative and communication skills
  • Must be comfortable interfacing directly with drivers and carrier partners
  • Must have basic computer proficiency
  • Must be able to print, scan, and fax documents
  • Must have strong attention to detail
  • Must have organizational skills
  • Must be able to frequently stand, walk, and move between the dock window and office/admin areas
  • Must be able to work in a distribution center environment
  • Must be able to tolerate temperature variation, noise, and vehicle traffic
  • Must be able to work 0% travel

Desired Qualifications

  • 0–2 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or distribution center operations
  • Prior customer service experience
  • Familiarity with TMS systems
  • RXO system familiarity
