Job Summary
Drive school buses over scheduled routes and field trips while ensuring student safety during loading, unloading, and transit. Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, clean assigned buses, and fuel vehicles to maintain safe operating conditions. Monitor passengers, advise them on appropriate behavior, and assist with emergency evacuations and incident resolution. Conduct emergency drills, attend unit meetings and training, and prepare daily reports for incident logs, mileage, and student counts. Respond to inquiries from students, parents, and staff regarding transportation services.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Job related experience
- CPR First Aide
- CDL School Bus Endorsement
- DOT Physical Exam
- Random Drug Screening
- Criminal Background Check
- Family Care Safety Registry
- Consent to and successful completion of a pre-employment background check
- Results of background check acceptable to the Blue Springs School District
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl
- Fine finger dexterity
- Ability to work under some temperature extremes
- Ability to work under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness
- Moderate to loud noise tolerance
- Adhering to safety practices
- Administering first aid
- Applying pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws
- Operating district vehicles
- Operating fire extinguisher
- Operating two-way radio
- Operating standard office equipment
- Preparing and maintaining accurate records
- Basic math knowledge including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios
- Ability to read a variety of manuals
- Ability to write documents following prescribed formats
- Ability to present information to others
- Knowledge of emergency evacuation techniques
- Knowledge of area streets and locations
- Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance
