Job Summary
Conduct installation, maintenance, and repair of electric-power generation and distribution equipment, underground cables, and related facilities under the direct observation of a Journeyman Lineman. Assist in hanging travelers from poles or towers, operating boom trucks, and handling 6 or 9 ton hoists from elevated positions. Perform tasks including setting guard poles, stringing lead lines, sleeving, sagging, and dead-ending conductors and fiber cables. Operate conveyance machinery equipped with tools and materials to job sites, potentially working on or near energized parts using rubber glove and hot stick methods. Attend prescribed training classes to advance through a 42-month apprenticeship program or gain continuous experience.
Required Qualifications
- valid commercial driver's license
- valid class "B" commercial driver's license
- Be indentured in a Training program that is registered with the Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship Training or if applicable, a State Apprenticeship Council
- two (2) years of continuous experience in apprentice work substation/line construction/maintenance experience
- May be required to relocate as work requirements demand
Desired Qualifications
- May be required to hold a valid class "B" commercial driver's license
- May be required to obtain light crane certification for boom trucks etc.
- May be required to read and interpret blueprints
- Drives and operates conveyance machinery equipped with tools and materials to job site
- May work in storm restoration operations to rebuild and/or repair damaged power systems
- May attend training classes or seminars to gather knowledge of new processes, safety regulations and/or refresher training
- Works with supervision
