Job Summary
Design transmission lines from 69kV to 765kV by performing structural analysis, foundation design, and conductor selection studies. Specify components, model lines in PLS-CADD to determine right of way and calculate sags, and prepare plan and profile drawings. Develop cost estimates, schedules, and specifications for procurement while reviewing vendor submittals. Apply engineering principles to produce technical plans, drawings, and models using modern tools to automate calculations and reduce rework. Work in-office three days per week on a hybrid schedule.
Required Qualifications
- This position requires a degree from a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board - accredited undergraduate program or a US based ABET-accredited program.
- Related engineering, internship or co-op work experience.
- Proficiency with PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE.
- 1+ years of related experience in transmission line engineering.
- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering principles including basic transmission line engineering.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans, drawings, and models.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week.
- This position may require access to U.S. export-controlled information. As such, candidates must be a citizen of a country listed in Appendix A to Part 810 of the Code of Federal Regulations.
Desired Qualifications
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and designation as an Engineer in Training.
- Proficiency with any of the following programs: PLS-TOWER, SAG10, LPILE, MFAD, ArcGIS, CDEGS, AutoCAD, Microstation.
- Experience in writing and providing support documentation for engineering calculations.
- Familiarity with design codes and standards such as NESC, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318.
- Programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations, design checks, reporting, or data transformation.
- Additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other training in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that helps you apply automation or agentic AI to real engineering problems.
