Transmission Engineer - Station

Job Summary
Develop detailed project scopes and statements of work for AMPT construction RFPs, while vetting and managing third-party vendors and contractors. Provide technical direction for electric utility switching station and substation design, calculations, and studies across distribution and transmission voltage levels. Review engineering bid packages for approval and maintain engineering standards in collaboration with operations and planning teams. Assist in developing equipment ratings, annual budgets, and drawing management databases. Coordinate with stakeholders and complete FERC compliance training. Requires a four-year engineering degree, 1-3 years of transmission or distribution experience, and a Professional Engineer's license.
Required Qualifications
- A four-year accredited degree in engineering
- Civil or electrical engineering
- Must be deadline/critical path oriented
- Must have a strong ability to prioritize
- Must demonstrate a high degree of expertise in the use of software tools that produce items such as spreadsheets, written reports, database reports and graphical presentations
- Strong verbal, written, and computer skills
- Must demonstrate previous success in building effective business relationships
- Must successfully complete FERC Standards of Conduct compliance training within 30 days of employment
- Must be willing to travel
Desired Qualifications
- A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in electric transmission engineering or distribution engineering
- A Professional Engineer's license
- Knowledge and experience in transmission protection and control engineering and/or transmission line engineering
- Knowledge of FERC Uniform System of Accounts (Part 35 of 18.1 CFR)
- Knowledge of RTO transmission planning processes and system operations
- Knowledge of NERC processes and compliance obligations
- Knowledge of project management and transmission planning software
- Experience with computer aided design software, graphical information system software and Aspen or similar software applications
