Job Summary
Assemble transmissions and subassemblies using fixtures, presses, and hand/power tools while setting up torque wrenches and verifying fastener sequences per specifications. Install seals, gaskets, and lubricants according to work instructions, then measure critical characteristics with calipers, micrometers, and gauges to ensure quality. Perform in-process inspections, conduct functional checks, and document results for traceability. Identify nonconforming parts, stop production to escalate issues, and support containment actions with Quality and Engineering. Maintain a clean workstation using 5S principles and follow safety protocols in a high-mix manufacturing environment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED (or equivalent experience)
- Ability to read and interpret work instructions and basic engineering drawings/blueprints
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to use common hand tools and measuring devices
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team; dependable attendance and punctuality
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety
Desired Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience assembling transmissions, drivetrains, powertrain products, or similar precision mechanical assemblies
- Experience with presses, bearing installation, snap rings, seal installation, and torque/angle tooling; ability to troubleshoot torque/fit issues
- Proficiency with precision measurement (calipers, micrometers, indicators)
- Experience working in a high-mix/low-volume environment; able to shift between models and follow revision-controlled documentation
- Lean/5S familiarity and participation in continuous improvement or problem-solving activities (Kaizen, etc.)
