Transitions Center SOAR Teacher

Job Summary
The Transitions Center SOAR Teacher will provide instructional planning and instruction to special education students ages 16-26 to promote growth in vocation, independent living, and social skills, with placement in SOAR or Work-Based Learning programs. Responsibilities include leading classroom and community-based instruction, supervising paraprofessionals, ensuring safety and confidentiality, completing and coordinating IEP-related paperwork and meetings, collecting and analyzing assessment data, modeling effective communication, utilizing technology for instruction and IEP writing, maintaining professional behavior, adapting to changes, attending trainings, and performing duties as assigned in accordance with contractual rules and legal guidelines. The role requires collaboration with students, parents, teachers, staff, administrators, and community/advocacy groups, and may involve transportation of students and establishing relationships with community partners.
Required Qualifications
- Must have full approval as a Special Education Teacher in the State of Michigan
- Knowledge of Transition Planning
- Ability to communicate effectively and work successfully with students, parents, teachers, staff, school administrators, and vocational/community/advocacy groups
- Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn and utilize computer programs such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Easy IEP, Skyward, etc.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds
- Willingness to receive additional training to be certified in CPI and CPR to be a member of the Response Team
- Must have at least an effective rating on previous evaluation, if applicable
- Must have good references
- Must have an excellent attendance record
