Job Summary
Implement supportive strategies and individualized behavior plans for students with significant communication, daily living, and vocational skill deficits within the classroom and community. Assist students in acquiring and retaining these skills through instructional programming, while providing de-escalation strategies and physical support as needed. Support vocational task completion by creating checklists and visual aids, troubleshoot assistive technology needs, and provide physical assistance for personal hygiene. Accurately collect data using various systems to document student progress and service planning, and participate in the implementation and revision of student behavior plans. Maintain confidential information and build positive relationships with building staff and community members to sustain positive learning environments. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors, including supervising student activities when needed.
Required Qualifications
- Two years successful post high school education
- Two years' experience with students with disabilities
- At least one year of experience in a position requiring interpersonal interaction skills
- Knowledge of strategies to support students with disabilities who have significant skill deficits in communication, adult daily living, and vocational skills
- Able to demonstrate skills and strategies to support students who need high levels of support with communication, adult daily living, and vocational skills
- Experience with behavior management strategies
- Able to accurately collect data when supporting students in the classroom and in the community
- Able to maintain confidential information about students
- Able to work effectively in stressful situations that may occur within the classroom, building, on transportation, and in the community
- Regular, reliable attendance
- Valid driver's license
- Current insurance
- Personal vehicle for transporting students to vocational and daily living activities within the community
- Demonstrates patience, compassion, and the desire to work with students who need high levels of support with communication, daily living, and vocational skills within the classroom and community
- Implementing supportive strategies and individualized behavior plans in the classroom and in the community
- Implement and provide de-escalation strategies
- Physical support to students who demonstrate self-injurious or other problem behaviors
- Create checklists, visual supports, and behavior supports
- Supports and troubleshoots assistive technology (e.g. communication device) needs for students to utilize in the classroom and in the community
- Provides physical assistance to students with personal hygiene needs
- Completes data collection using various systems (i.e. paper/pencil, technology) to document student progress and special education service planning
- Participates in professional development as required and when requested by the District
- Works collaboratively with building staff to create and sustain positive learning environments for all students
- Builds positive and professional relationships with other team members, building staff, and individuals within the community
- Maintains professional standards as a representative of the school district
- Supervises student activities, when needed
Desired Qualifications
- Two years' experience with students with disabilities with at least one year of experience in a position requiring interpersonal interaction skills and knowledge of strategies to support students with disabilities who have significant skill deficits in communication, adult daily living, and vocational skills
